Timber Mono Stringer

This 3 level home in Aberfeldie has a “L” shaped centre carriage staircase with anextra straight flight above.  The centre carriage string allows for the stair to sit off the walls, which creates a floating feeling to the structure. The Spotted Gum treads are finished at 45mm thick, therefore requiring a riser reducer strip to fix to the underside of the tread, to ensure that the stair complies with the building code.  The cranked strings have allowed for there to be no fixings to the floor at the landing. The Spotted Gum, centre carriage strings are a feature within themselves and look amazing from below. The balustrade used on this stair is 12mm toughened glass that is framed with tread mounted timber laminated posts with a top mounted insert timber handrail.  The posts are mounted to the tread with a custom made stainless steel bracket.
